Woman and man at an outdoor table in a restaurant, clinking glasses of red wine

If you’re in the early stages of dating, you’ll want to make sure you follow our dos and don’ts for the festive season!

Do: make sure you both know where you stand.
Christmas involves a lot of family and friends and you may want them to meet the important people in your life but make sure they’recomfortable if you want to introduce them.
If you want to exchange presents, make sure you have aconversation about it first. If you haven’t been dating long enough you might notknow them well enough, or they might not feel comfortable with gifts. It’s alsoworth discussing a price limit. All of this can help avoid embarrassment!

Don’t: ignore them.
Yes, Christmas is a very busy time for a lot of peoplebut if you see your relationship going somewhere, ensure you make time for themduring the festive period.
Further along the line, compromise with Christmas andwhose family you spend time with. Alternate who you visit on Christmas day forexample.

Do: watch your alcohol intake.
There is more alcohol available at Christmas what withall the parties and gatherings. Your date doesn’t want to have to hold yourhair back or carry you home when you’ve had one too many, especially in theearly stages of a relationship. Have a couple of drinks but pace yourself -there are plenty of opportunities for drinking!

Don’t: crowd each other.
You need space, especially when there are so manytraditions and parties and family gatherings. You each might want to do yourown thing sometimes, especially if it’s family traditions you partake in everyyear. Don’t pressure them to include you in everything, make sure you do yourown thing as well.

Do: take advantage of all the great date ideas in winter.
Ice skating, Christmas markets and cosy nights in! Thereare loads of date opportunities in the colder months that can be very romanticso make the most of them!

Give A Good First Impression On Your First Date!

Woman and man at an outdoor table in a restaurant, clinking glasses of red wine

Everyone wants to make a good impression on a first date. Read our tips and secure that second date no problem!

Be on time.

It’s rude to be late but being late on a first date is definitely not going to win you any brownie points. Fair enough if you have a valid reason but make sure you let them know and tell them why and if you can, roughly when you think you’ll arrive. Definitely don’t cancel on your date unless you absolutely have to, otherwise they will be unlikely to give you a second chance.

Dress appropriately.

If you’re going to a nice restaurant, don’t turn up in shorts and flip flops! Likewise if you’re just going to a café for a coffee, there’s no need to wear a suit!

You don’t need to spend hours choosing an outfit but your date will appreciate you making a bit of effort and shows that you’re serious about your date.

Make eye contact.

You’re much more likely to connect with the other person if you make eye contact. They’ll know you’re listening and are interested in what they’re saying, rather than looking around the room and not paying attention.

Ask questions.

You need to let your date know that you’re interested in them and the best way to show that is to ask questions about them. Only ask things that are relevant and that you genuinely want to know. There’s no point getting into a deep conversation about something you know nothing about. Keep the conversation light hearted and get to know each other.

Also make sure you listen to their answers and don’t keep talking about yourself!

Don’t have your phone out.

You’re probably only going to be with your date for a couple of hours for your initial meeting, to suss whether you’re interested on taking it further. There is no need to keep checking your phone – your date wants your full attention. Put your phone in your bag/pocket and only look at it when you absolutely need to.

Be mindful of your manners.

Not only do you need to be aware of your manners with your date, you need to make sure you’re polite to everyone around you. Your date will be watching how you handle yourself and if you’re rude to waiting staff, they won’t be impressed. Treat people how you want to be treated and you’ll get more respect.

Pay them compliments.

If you’re interested in your date and would like to see them again, compliment them. Tell them you like something they’re wearing, or that they have lovely eyes. Something that simple will let them know you like them and if they like you back they’ll return the favour!

6 Ways To Tell Someone Likes You

Blonde woman smiling at red haired man

Not sure if someone likes you? Want to know if you’re likely to get another date? Look out for these signals to indicate if they’re into you!

  1. Mutual eye contact.

If someone likes you they are much more likely to try and catch your eye and will maintain eye contact whilst talking to you.

Maintaining eye contact elevates your oxytocin levels and increases mutual attraction.

Just make sure that your eye contact doesn’t end up verging on staring as that’s rude and might scare your date!

  1. Finding excuses to touch you.

When someone likes you’ll they’ll quite often go out of their way to find excuses to touch you.

This might be lightly touching your arm as they talk to you or finding an excuse to hold your hand.

Another way they could touch you is by “preening”. Picking fluff off your clothing or straightening your collar or tie could be an indication that they’re interested in you.

  1. Inward leaning.

The way a person is sitting is an important gauge as to whether they like you. People tend to lean towards people and try to close the gap between you. For example uncrossing their arms/legs or leaning over a table or if you’re sitting next to each other, they’d be likely turned towards you to give you their full attention.

  1. Mirroring.

Subtle mirroring indicates attraction. If they cross their arms when you do, or uncross their legs when you do then it is very likely that there is attraction there.

People who like one another are likely to mirror each other’s body positions. It can help establish rapport and sends a subconscious signal that you’re interested.

  1. No barriers between you.

If they are interested in you they are likely to remove any barriers or obstacles between you. If they’re sitting opposite you they might move to sit next to you or if there is something big on the table they might move it out of the way so they can see you better. These are great indications that someone likes you.

They might move cups and things out of the way so that there is a clear path between you, or also as mentioned previously, they may uncross their arms or legs as this can be seen as a barrier, so removal of this leaves them more open towards you.

  1. They ask you lots of questions.

If someone is asking you a lot of questions about yourself and seems genuinely interested – then they probably are!

If you like someone you want to make time to find out more information about them so if someone is making an effort to learn about you then they are likely to have a vested interest in you.

Ten Topics To Avoid On A First Date

Man and woman smiling on date in restaurant with food and wine

Everyone wants to secure a second date so make sure you avoid talking about these topics.

  • Politics.

You don’t need to know what their political opinions are on a first date. Keep conversation light hearted and get to know each other. Their answer could affect how you feel about them if you don’t agree and there’s no need to bring it up so soon.

  • Previous partners.

You don’t need to know what their previous partner was like. You’ll end up comparing them to yourself which is never a good thing to do. Also don’t ask how many previous partners they’ve had as you aren’t going to want to hear the answer!

  • Religion.

Religion is a very personal subject and a lot of people won’t see eye to eye. If your religion is important to you and important that your partner share it then you’ll likely already be dating someone you know has very similar beliefs, otherwise it’s not an important topic of conversation for a first date.

  • Money.

You don’t need to know how much they earn and equally they don’t need to know your salary. It’s not anyone else’s business what people earn unless they are planning on living together so save money talk until you know where your relationship is going.

  • Marriage/children.

Never talk about marriage and children on a first date; you don’t want to scare them off! There’s plenty of time to talk about what you both want from the future, don’t seem overly keen on the first date or they’ll run a mile!

  • Work.

Don’t moan to your date about your job, your annoying colleague or how much you dislike your boss; they don’t care! By all means discuss what you both do for a living but there’s no need to go into detail – you never know, they might know someone you work with!

  • Yourself.

Obviously you will be talking about yourself so your date can get to know you but only when they ask you questions. Don’t keep talking about yourself unprompted. Ask your date lots of questions about themselves so that they can tell you’re interested in them.

  • Your own appearance.

If your date compliments you then great but don’t boast about how much you do down the gym or equally, don’t put yourself down – this isn’t attractive for someone else to hear. Compliment your date and let them know you like them by all means.

  • What you’re looking for.

This is never a good question to be asked so definitely don’t talk about your “usual type” or anything that might make your date feel uncomfortable. You’re allowed to be picky but they don’t need to know that!

  • Your family background.

No one is interested about your entire family tree. You can discuss how many siblings you have but keep it simple and don’t go into detail about all your different family members – it’s boring and if you end up in a relationship with this person they’ll meet them all anyway!

Stay Safe When Meeting Someone from a Chat Line

Blonde woman smiling at red haired man

Chat lines are one of the most popular ways to meet people nowadays. To ensure you keep yourself safe when you chat, we’ve shared some of our tips below.

Always trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut feeling. If someone is asking too many questions or asking things you aren’t comfortable with then tell them.

If someone immediately asks for your contact details or wants to meet before you’ve decided whether you might like them, this can be a red flag – if you’re not comfortable with it then don’t meet them, or tell them you would like to chat and get to know them a little better first. If they agree then maybe they’re just a little keen, if they get aggressive or upset that you won’t then you already know you made the right decision.

If they ask you for money or want you to buy them something, they are unlikely to be genuine and just want something from you, especially if you’ve never met.

It sounds obvious but never send anyone money. It’s so easy to get caught up in the moment and feel like you trust someone and have a connection but always use caution when people have unusual requests.

Be cautious sending out personal information. When you’re getting to know someone, sometimes you talk about things you wouldn’t necessarily talk about with your friends. Be aware of how much detail you’re telling someone you don’t really know.

It sounds obvious but never share your bank details, card numbers, passport or ID details with anyone and be aware that if they are asking about family history and ask for your mother’s maiden name or the name of your first pet – scammers can use this information against you.

Try not to drag out how long you’re talking before you meet.

You can only get to know someone so much over the phone. Once you feel comfortable talking to them, arrange to meet in a busy public place and let people know where you are going.

On the other hand, you are also under no obligation to meet them, regardless of how long you’ve been chatting. If you feel they are puttin you under any sort of pressure to do so, it might be best to move on.

Scammers are unlikely to meet up with you in real life and meeting is a great way to find out if there is a spark between you and you want to continue getting to know them.

When you do arrange to meet them, make sure you meet in a busy, public place and don’t accept a lift. There’s no need to put yourself at any risk.

If your date offers to pick you up, you can politely decline. If they are genuine they will understand your reasons. Never tell your address to someone you’ve only just met and don’t know very well.

Don’t drink too much when you’re on a date, especially  first date. Drinking can lower inhibitions and impair your judgement. You want to be on full alert when meeting someone for the first time and also want to set a good first impression!

Never be afraid to leave if you feel uncomfortable. You don’t owe your date anything and your safety is more important than anything else.

Never take your date back to your place or accept an invitation back to theirs. You need to get to know them and build up trust before you feel safe letting them into your home or being alone with them.

Stay safe when dating with Chat2Date and report any suspicious behaviour.

Why Should You Call Our Chatline?

Woman smiling leaning against wall talking on mobile phone

In today’s society, the internet is readily available on our phones and people are just the click of a button away.

So why are people still using phone chatlines to call people for dating instead of internet dating and dating apps?

There are a few reasons why people prefer talking to someone on the phone.

You can hear what someone is like better than through messaging.

No, you can’t see a picture of them but people always put their best ones online anyway! With phone chatlines, you can hear what a person sounds like and it’s much more personal than talking to a computer or phone screen.

You can explain yourself better.

Messaging someone (especially when you don’t know them very well) can get complicated when you don’t know their sense of humour as messages can get misconstrued and misunderstood, whereas when having a casual chat on the phone you can detect someone’s tone and intent.

You can spend as much or as little as you like.

With dating sites, you have to pay (usually around £20) on a monthly basis. With Chat2Date you only pay for what you use! It’s totally under your control how much you spend. The cheapest way to call is to set up a pre-paid card account where you get a set amount of minutes for every top up and this is charged to your card. Alternatively you can call from a landline for just 13p per minute (plus your phone company’s access charge) or from a mobile for just 25p per minute with no hidden charges.

There are many reasons why people may prefer one over the other, but don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it! Give Chat2Date a call today!
